Why did you choose Anesthesiology as your specialty?
Anesthesiology appealed to me because it is an opportunity to draw upon many aspects of medicine to care for patients along with plenty of opportunities for on-the-fly problem-solving.
Please share an anonymous patient story that has inspired or impacted you.
I had the opportunity to care for a patient who required complex facial reconstruction over several years of procedures. I cared for him many times over three years from his initial trauma until he had achieved what he considered a normal life. He was always in good spirits and very active in his care. It was a rare opportunity for continuity of care in anesthesiology practice and it really showcased this patient’s inner strength and determination.
Why do you work locum tenens?
Locum tenens allows me to concentrate my work hours in a way which allows me to spend more time at home with my family. It also allows for more free time for travel and hobbies, not to mention skydiving and mountaineering.

Do you have any advice for physicians exploring the locum tenens space?
Have an idea what you want out of your work-life balance. Find a company willing and able to find the best opportunities and put your needs first.
